Welcome to the first ever Jack’s Stack! A weekly collection of reviews/recommendations for new comics right here on Enthuse! Let’s jump right into it:

All Time Comics: Bullwhip #1
Fantographics Publications
Writer/Co-Plot: Josh Bayer
Pencils/Co-Plot: Benjami Marra

In the second of Fantagraphics All Time Comics lineup, Josh Bayer headlines a Herb Trimpe influenced, s&m/cosmic smash-up! Al Milgrom’s neon colouring is worth the price of admission alone, not to mention the mix of Bronze-Age writing and underground-comix art. It’s like a superhero black-light poster!

Black Panther & the Crew #1
Marvel Comics
Writer: Ta-Nehisi Coates
Pencils: Butch Guise

Featuring an all-star cast of black superheroes, the Crew is less high-flying action and more of a grounded look into the Marvel universe’s Harlem. Black Panther has rarely headlined a bad book, and with resident T’Challa expert Ta-Nehisi Coates still on writing duties, I’d say he (and the rest of Marvel’s black community) are in good hands.

Detective Comics #954
DC Comics
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Marcio Takaria

Everything that’s been built up since Batman & Robin Eternal is coming to a head: Ra’s al Ghul and the League of Shadows revealed, The Colony freed, and Team Batman captured by Lady Shiva! Detective has consistently been the most “Batman-esque” of the current Batman titles and this issue is no different; the stakes are constantly high and everyone is in immediate danger!

Green Valley #7
Image Comics
Creator, Writer: Max Landis
Penciller, Cover: Giuseppe Camuncoli

Max Landis continues his “Why-didn’t-I-think-of-that?” medieval saga. If you haven’t begun reading this “tall-tale” I highly recommend picking up the back issues, as the twist is brilliantly handled and not worth spoiling here. Characterization in this issue is still solid, as Landis excels in realistic and compelling dialogue. This instalment really brings out the brotherhood between these old warriors, as they prep for what could be their final battle!

And there you have it folks, this week’s recommendations. Go out and pick these up at your local comic shop or on Comixology.com! Happy Reading!
